Process Inline Tensiometer
to Monitor the Concentration of Cleaning Agent

In-process dosing of cleaners guarantees the optimum cleaner concentration and hence the required quality of coating and cleaning processes. Other methods of measurement, such as conductivity measurements, are not suitable to monitor the concentration of cleaner due to cross sensitivities and/or the presence of non-ionic surfactants. The surface tension measurement detects the effect of the unused surfactants and therefore shows in the best possible way the current state of the process.

Process Plot
SITA Messtechnik Measuring Instruments to Measure the Concentration of Cleaners. Fully Automatic Measuring, which means:
  • automatic calibration with clean water
  • automatic taking of samples from the bypass, and if needed, temperature readings
  • output of the surface tension reading or of the measured concentration of cleaner via interfaces yet to be defined
The surface tension of the process medium is measured with the help of the bubble pressure method. Air bubbles are pumped through a capillary into the sample. The sample has a maximum inner pressure that correlates with the surface tension. The concentration of cleaner or wetting agent can be monitored by the measuring system with the built-in reference curves or by the process control. This way optimum and automated dosing can be achieved. SITA provides the experience of testing prototypes of such measuring systems in CIP processes in the food industry.
